ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Julie DesJarlais

Social Media, Web & Graphic Designer, Art Director, Copywriter, Cat Whisperer

After graduating from Northern Michigan University with a degree in Graphic Design, I moved from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Madison, Wisconsin, and found employment at American TV and Appliance.

I started at American TV as a production artist and eventually was promoted to a Senior Graphic Designer position where I flourished for three years creating and designing ads, brochures, magazines and newspaper ads, Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger ads, logo design, in-store displays, posters and graphics for American's delivery trucks. Soon enough, I was offered a position as an Advertising Department Manager where I oversaw six graphic designers and coordinated workflow between the advertising and marketing staff. As the years progressed, the Vice President of Advertising saw that my creativity was underused and he promoted me to the position of Art Director. The Art Directing position at American TV changed each week with different challenges in both print and video marketing.

I worked as a graphic designer and social media specialist for two separate festivals in Wisconsin over the summer of 2014, Brat Fest and Lifest were two of the most exciting design challenges I had in my life so far. Talk about a dream job! Not only did I get to design all the print media for the events, but I also was in charge of Social Media before, during, and after both events. My favorite highlight was seeing my art displayed on the side of the MetroBus in Madison, WI. That was a great year.

Since I was still freelancing, I landed several other design jobs over the next several years, including working for such places as The Creative Company, Fiskars, and Duluth Trading Company.

I am currently working as an Art Director at HyCite Enterprises and a freelance designer. Each day is a new learning experience and I am always eager to tackle any new design challenge. The Art Directing position at HyCite has been a whirlwind of creative and fun. I've been challenged to manage company literature inventory where I was introduced to inventory forecasting, print quantity quotes, and estimated final output. Every year there are two large conventions that require new and innovative visual displays and design. Four times a year the Royal Prestige Magazine is printed and that includes brainstorming a theme with the design and copy team, preparing photo decks for studio photography along with page layout design. I oversee logo, brochure, broadside, catalog, and boxing design. The amount of work is never-ending and overwhelming at times, but I love it! There never is a dull day in the Creative Services department.

My lifelong graphic design goal is to create the best possible designs for any marketing or advertising challenge that I may face. Although my skill set is vast, my greatest expertise revolves in the world of brand identity design, content creation, and print collateral. My wish is to combine my knowledge and experience in these areas and to deliver the best creative edge to my clients and their audiences.
